Why email delivery fails
When email delivery fails, examine the recipient domain, MX/DNS, SMTP connection, server response, authentication policy and later filtering separately. An SMTP acceptance does not guarantee Inbox placement, and the absence of an immediate bounce does not prove long-term mailbox availability.
How to read the delivery result
Distinguish temporary 4xx from permanent 5xx SMTP failures and inspect MX plus SPF/DKIM/DMARC where relevant. Keep the SMTP code, timestamp and Message-ID for diagnosis. A disposable mailbox adds a separate account-recovery risk even when it works technically.
The detail that matters
SMTP 4xx responses usually request a later retry, while 5xx responses are permanent for that transaction. After acceptance, SPF/DKIM/DMARC alignment, reputation and mailbox filtering can still affect placement, so distinguish transport failure from spam-folder delivery. For a practical mailbox check, use 2ip e-mail check.
